Master O’Connell began his Taekwondo journey in 1978 and is currently a 6th Degree Black Belt. As a competitor Master O’Connell won over 60 sparring competitions and is a 5 time National Champion. Master O’Connell started teaching and training athletes in 1984. Since 1984, fifty (50) athletes have gone on to win national medals at the USAT level. The USAT organization is the premier level and the national governing body of Taekwondo here in the USA.
At Peak Performance Martial Arts Mr. Ryan Hendershot is a Master Taekwondo Instructor and competitor. Mr. Hendershot is originally from Hudson, Iowa where he graduated from Hudson High School. Mr Hendershot has been studying the art and sport of Taekwondo since 1996 under the instruction of Master O'Connell. Mr. Hendrshot has received his 4th Degree Black Belt making him a Master Instructor of Taekwondo. Mr. Hendershot has been teaching the Little Dragons (three to seven year olds) as well as the beginner and intermediate classes for a number of years. Mr. Hendershot is also a part of the Iowa Peak Performance Team, which competes nationally and internationally. Mr. Hendershot is not only a very qualified Taekwondo Instructor, but he has achieved a lot as a Taekwondo athlete. Mr. Hendershot has won national medals in Forms and Olympic Sparring competitions. 2004 AAU National Champion, 2005 USAT Senior National Silver medalist, 2006 AAU Bronze medalist, 2008 USAT Senior National Bronze medalist and much more.
At Peak Performance Martial Arts Mr. Ibrahim Cejvanovic better known as Mr. Gigo is one of the Taekwondo Instructors. Mr. Gigo was originally born in Bosnia and later moved to the United States in 1997. Mr. Gigo began Taekwondo in 2002 at the age of eleven and has studied under Master O’Connell since 2003. Mr. Gigo has been a member of the Peak Performance National team since 2006. Mr. Gigo is a 2008 USAT National Silver Medalist and a graduate of West High School.
